Angels Camp Rally, April, 2022 

 

There is currently no Wagonmaster for this short rally.  Attendees will decide what to do when they arrive.   If a Wagonmaster volunteers, there may be scheduled activities, which may have a fee involved.

 

April 10, day of arrival,  5:00pm:  Cocktail hour, Heavy Hors D’ Oeuvres. 

 All are asked to bring an appetizer to share and your beverage of choice.  This will be the time to plan what activities we want to do.

Suggested area activities to consider

New Melones Reservoir:  Entrance across the road from the park, fishing and boat rentals.

 

Angels Camp: Old downtown with good shops and restaurants, visitor center at 1192 S. Main St. that has a map for self guided tour.  Gold Panning tours are available at 1227 S.Main st..

 

Murphys: nearby “touristy” town with lots of nice shops and good restaurants, a guided walking tour is available (call 209-728-3072), Ironstone winery is a short distance from downtown and has beautiful grounds, a nice tour and a very nice museum (Gold Rush items including a HUGE unique gold nugget) and gift shop.  

 

Mercer Caverns are 3 +- miles from Murphys, cave tours are available.

 

Calavares Big Trees State Park: 25+- miles from RV Park.  Out Rt 4 past Murphys & Arnold.  Very nice walking trail among the giant Sequoias.  This is a special place to see the big trees.  Well worth a visit.

 

Vallecito: a short distance north on Highway 49.   Moaning Caves have a walking tour, two ZIP LINES (fee) and an optional (fee) way of rappelling into the cave.   Twisted Oak and Irish Family Vineyards are also nearby.

 

Jamestown: Antique shops, restaurants and the California Railtown Museum that has a very nice Steam Train ride available.  Call to check days open .

 

Columbia State Park: (Historic Gold Rush Town)

Village is closed to motor vehicles.  Shops and buildings are open .  Interesting walking around town, shopkeepers in period dress, some restaurants.  V good Summer stock theater.

 

Sonora: also nearby, this is the largest community in the area with lots of shops and restaurants.

 

Golf Courses:  Several nearby courses in Angels Camp, Murphys and others.
